Preparing for Labiaplasty
Preparation before surgery can help reduce any risks of complications during or post-surgery.
- Speak to your doctor about your daily medication, including vitamin supplements or for any other condition,
- Abstain from sex for a month before the procedure.
- Abstain from alcohol, nicotine, or any other drug consumption.
- Avoid taking any blood thinners and medications for at least two weeks as there can be a risk of excessive bleeding.
- Do not eat or drink for 8 hours before the surgery.
- Get 9 hours of sleep or rest before the surgery so that the body is fully prepared for the procedure.
Possible complications
It is common to experience few mild side effects after any surgical procedure. After a labiaplasty, the body takes time to heal itself but generally there are no major complications. Some of the side effects that one is likely to feel after the procedure include-
- Mild bleeding
- Infection
- Hematoma
- Temporary numbness
- Chronic dryness
- Decreased sensitivity around the vulva
- Mild discomfort during sex in the initial days of the recovery
Post-surgery results
Most women begin to see the results of labiaplasty as the swelling reduces and scars diminish over a few weeks or sometimes months after the procedure.
- Women who chose to undergo labiaplasty because their labia is getting tugged or twisted or torn during intercourse would get benefitted from the procedure. The surgery helps women gain lost confidence while getting involved in sexual intimacy with their partners.
- Labiaplasty will not change a woman’s ability to become sexually aroused or achieve orgasm. However, there is a small risk of reduced sensitivity of the genitals.
- Any numbness around the incision settles in a month or two and is rarely persistent. 90 percent of women are satisfied with what they wanted from the surgery.
